Fast forward 10 years to when the internet really became popular, you no longer needed scissors and glue, you would search for an item you really liked then right click to save it onto your desktop.
But you started right clicking on too many images and all of a sudden your desktop is filled with folders within folders within folders of all the stuff you like and found on the internet. Then Comes along Pinterest! Your Social Media Scrapbook. Take pictures any which way you want or upload pictures you already have onto different boards online, all neatly organized, never to be cluttered again! Remember, it goes far beyond saving images, use it to share events, products, tours, anything you can think of.
Here are some tips about how to get the most out of your Pinterest boards:
First you need to create a profile:
Then complete the profile information about you or your business. Then choose a picture for you or your business, make sure it expresses exactly who you are and if it can, what you are about. Also add a description that is not too long, but makes it enticing so people will be interested in your pinboard, follow you, and most importantly, to share your pins.
Create boards with specific topics:
If you are a tour operator, for instance, create boards under similar topics. Examples include; Personal, Tours, Garden Route, Fynbos, Wildlife, Conservation, What we love in Cape Town, In and around South Africa. So you get a general idea. Make it all about topics relevant to your business and personal likes. People are attracted to beautiful pictures or content that pops, so make sure you pin something exceptional and eye-catching. Very importantly, add a well thought out description of each pin explaining what the image about.
Share your ideas and values:
If your business is part of a particular group or association, be sure to add that to your boards. Perhaps you have done charity work then create a board for that particular event. Show people that you care.
Descriptions, descriptions, descriptions:
I cannot stress this enough, this is the reason you have Pinterest – so that people searching for your keywords, can find your board which then links back to your website. Boom! Add your most popular keywords into your descriptions naturally. Do not write like a robot, you are not a robot, you are a human being, write like you talk. People love that.
Weekly Specials:
We all have specials on our websites, why not make a board about it on your Pinterest profile? It is great to have a weekly special board as this will make people return to your board on a weekly basis.
Link to your website:
Don’t forget, when you pin something, be sure that it links to your website. This will help people to take action on your pins.
Ask questions:
If you don’t ask, you don’t receive… Do you want to know what people think of your pin? Just ask them. I have learned you can even ask a question on your Facebook page and pin the responses to a “Questions & Answers” board on Pinterest. I hope these tips inspire you to start your own Pinterest boards. It is really fun and great for the Online Marketing of your company.
